A note from the artist:

I struggled mightily to make this piece. It's challenging to be creative when feelings of anger, horror, and genuine fear are at the core of the piece I'm working on. I have been fortunate to work with Funlola Coker, a talented metalsmith, and together we talked about and worked on this piece. 

Blue is the color that most often represents peace and tranquility, so to get to a place where we can have conversations about our collective rights to bodily autonomy (regardless of gender) I wanted to inspire a sense of tranquility despite feeling enraged because cooler heads are said to prevail. 

Blue chalcedony is said to promote stability and balance, which can be hard to conjure when we are threatened. The number seven (there are 7 blue sapphires) is a prime number so it can't be divided. There should be no divide when it comes to a person's reproductive and sexual health: It's a matter of science and medicine, full stop.

Red has long been the color associated with love. My hope is that every person whose reproductive autonomy is threatened by the overturning of Roe v. Wade will know that everyone who is a part of the Plan B exhibit sees you and supports you unconditionally.
